The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has threatened to close down universities throughout the nation and embark on a nationwide protest on Tuesday to press house its calls for.

SSANU and the Non-Tutorial Employees Union of Instructional and Related Establishments (NASU) have been in talks with the Federal Authorities over the 4 months’ wage arrears owed their members.

LEADERSHIP recollects that SSANU had few months in the past launched into a warning and most not too long ago issued to the federal government, a two-week ultimatum to satisfy its calls for.

The union is nonetheless accusing the Federal Authorities of constructing guarantees and never matching phrases with motion, threatening to cripple actions on campuses nationwide if their calls for aren’t met.

“So, as very accountable leaders, what now we have determined to do is that by Tuesday subsequent week, that would be the ninth of July, now we have directed our branches to carry protests all around the nation in our branches to inform the world that one thing positively is flawed someplace. That protest will happen in all our campuses,” SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim mentioned on Channels Tv’s on Friday.

“After which, we are going to proceed with the engagements. After which we can even have a grand protest in Abuja on the 18th of July the place we are going to picket the workplace of the Minister of Schooling, the Minister of Labour who has not even proven any signal of seriousness on the matter,” he added.

In line with Ibrahim, if after the protests, the group’s calls for are unmet, they are going to take the subsequent motion.

“So in the intervening time, now we have declared that we’ll protest on the branches, after which we may have a grand protest in Abuja.

“And thereafter, we are going to go on a full-blown strike that can be whole, complete, indefinite, and with none concession,” he mentioned.
