The Lagos State Police Command mentioned its operatives on Wednesday foiled an Improvised Explosive System (IED) assault within the Ikeja space of the state.

Spokesman of the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday by way of a digital briefing.

He mentioned a vigilant police officer reported round 4pm that whereas on his manner alongside Mobolaji Financial institution-Anthony Manner ikeja, he sighted an unregistered white Corolla automotive parked on the principle street near the gate of the Police Cellular Pressure’s 23 Barracks in Ikeja.

The police officer additionally reported {that a} younger man alighted from the automotive and thoroughly dropped a bag by the aspect of the fence of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit (FOU) in Ikeja earlier than returning to the automotive and later zoomed off.

On attending to the scene, the Police imagemaker mentioned the Police Anti-Explosives Unit found that the automotive had an IED in it, which was later recovered and detonated.

“Based mostly on the report, a crew of EOD-CBRN from the bottom was rapidly mobilised to the scene to determine the item and render identical secure if confirmed to be IED.

“On arrival, it was found to be IED. Subsequently, the world was cordoned off. SOP adopted IED rendered secure and thereafter taken to a secure distance for detonation,” SP Hundeyin mentioned.

He added that the residual of the IED was collected for additional evaluation.

“This raises concern about mass gathering of individuals and issues of safety in Lagos State,” Hundeyin mentioned.

He added that efforts had been underway by the Police to trace the proprietor of the car.
