Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has vowed to make Israel “remorse” the “cowardly” assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran.

In a submit on X on Wednesday, Pezeshkian mourned Haniyeh as “a courageous chief,” stating, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its territorial integrity, honour, delight, and dignity, and make the terrorist invaders remorse their cowardly motion.”

Haniyeh was reportedly killed in an Israeli strike in Iran, the place he was attending the inauguration of the nation’s new president. This incident marks a major escalation in tensions between Iran and Israel.

The killing of Haniyeh adopted an Israeli airstrike on a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut on Tuesday, which resulted within the demise of a senior commander of the Iran-backed group. Israel claimed the commander was liable for a latest rocket assault on the Israel-annexed Golan Heights.
