The Nigerian Trademark Registry (NTR) and the Nigerian Copyright Fee (NCC), chargeable for logos and copyright regulation, have respectively dismissed actress Ini Edo’s petition over the possession of the hit Netflix collection, ‘Shanty City’ and dominated in Chichi Nworah’s favour.

Recall that actress Ini Edo and Ms Chinenye Nworah, a filmmaker, have

been locked in a authorized battle over the possession rights of the hit Netflix collection “Shanty City’ launched in January 2023.

LEADERSHIP Sunday reviews that the battle over the possession  of the hit collection began when actress Ini Edo and her manufacturing firm, Minini Empire Productions Restricted (MEP), sought possession of each the logos “Shanty City” and “Scar,” in addition to the copyrights related to the collection.

The Trademark Registry rejected the petition filed by Ini Edo , and MEP relating to logos ‘SCAR’ NG/TM/O/2023/121745 and ‘SHANTY TOWN’

 

NG/TM/O/2023/97482 on January 10, 2024, declaring the petition baseless and with out benefit, thus,  giving the only real possession  of the logos to Ms Nworah’unique.

 

Each NCC and NTR,  of their separate rulings delivered on July 24, 2024,  dismissed the petition filed  by Ini Edo and MEP regarding the cancellation of two copyright certificates issued to Chinenye Nworah for the literary work “Shanty City”  with Certificates Quantity LW10177 and the audiovisual work “Shanty City” with Certificates Quantity CF1448.

 

The ruling reads this; “The NCC discovered no authorized grounds for the cancellation and upheld the validity of the certificates, confirming Mrs Nworah’s rightful possession of those copyrights.

 

“This case demonstrates OAL’s dedication to defending the rights of inventive people and firms within the face of mental property disputes,” Olisa Agbakoba Authorized group famous.
