College students from numerous tertiary establishments in Ogun State staged a protest on the State Police Command headquarters in Abeokuta, in response to the alleged killing of their colleague, Idowu Pelumi David, by an unidentified hit-and-run driver.
David, a pupil of the state-owned Gateway Polytechnic, was reportedly struck and killed on Monday, July 8, 2024, in entrance of the NYSC Orientation Camp within the State.
The protesting college students, below the banner of the Nationwide Affiliation of Nigerian College students (NANS), demanded justice for his or her deceased colleague. They introduced a protest letter to Police authorities, calling for the instant identification and prosecution of the wrongdoer. The protesters, armed with placards bearing numerous inscriptions, induced important visitors gridlock as they blocked the street.
The scholars particularly alleged {that a} workers member of the Nationwide Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was answerable for the loss of life of David. They expressed their frustration and anger, claiming a cover-up try within the incident.
A NANS consultant said, “This peaceable protest is to precise our unhappiness and grievance over the mindless crushing to loss of life of Idowu Pelumi David, a Nationwide Diploma 1 Public Administration pupil of the Gateway Polytechnic, Ayepe Annex, by a workers of the Nationwide Youth Service Corps within the state.”
In response, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, assured the scholars that an investigation had commenced to determine and prosecute the offender. Represented by his Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Operations, Manger Fergus, CP Alamutu pledged that the Police would completely examine the incident and guarantee justice is served.
