Nationwide and State Homes of Meeting Election Petitions Tribunal for Sokoto/Zamfara States, sitting in Sokoto, has sacked a member of the Home of Representatives for Yabo/Shagari federal constituency, Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo Danmaje.
The tribunal ordered Danmaje to pay N500,000 as damages to the petitioner as a price award.
In a unanimous judgement by the tribunal chairman, Justice Ashu A.Ewah, he declared Danmaje ‘s election null and void.
Different tribunal members embrace Justice Helen N. Hammanjoda and Justice Ali T. Changbo.
Justice Ewah mentioned the election carried out by the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) in 2023 and the rerun election on third February 2024 was marred with malpractices and declared inclusive.
The tribunal, nevertheless, ordered INEC to withdraw the certificates of return issued to Danmaje and conduct elections within the affected polling items inside 90 days.
The election will likely be carried out in 4 polling items within the two affected federal constituencies of the state, Yabo and Shagari native authorities areas.
The 4 polling items the place the tribunal requested INEC to conduct the election are three polling items in Shagari and one in Yabo native authorities space, respectively.
The polling items are Dagawa Maji Kira, Dagawa Mai Zane, Shiyar Magaji, Kesoji Shiyar Hakimi, Jaredi Maji Kira, and Mazoji, each within the Shagari and Yabo native authorities areas.
