Jigawa State was rocked by tragedy on Tuesday as a deadly motor accident claimed the lives of 14 passengers and left 4 others injured close to Kanya Market.
The accident occurred when a Toyota Hiace bus, overloaded and rushing, tried to bypass an immigration checkpoint by veering into the alternative lane, colliding head-on with a DAF truck. The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident by its spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
“In the present day, Tuesday, sixteenth of July 2024, at about 1120hrs, info on the Command’s disposal revealed that there was a deadly motorcar accident involving a DAF truck with reg. no. GMB 242 KD, coming from Kanya market,” mentioned Adam.

When the immigration officers stopped it, the driving force refused to cease and tried to get across the checkpoint by veering into the opposite lane. The impression of the collision was devastating, with 14 passengers dropping their lives immediately and 4 others sustaining extreme accidents.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kanya Division and his patrol group rushed to the scene. “On their arrival, corpses and injured have been evacuated and rushed to Kanya Babba Hospital. Corpses have been licensed useless by a physician on responsibility, whereas the injured are receiving medical consideration,” added DSP Adam.
